about
“Later” is about the beautiful, awkward and exhilarating start to new and unconventional relationships. When I was first coming out and exploring my identity and sexuality, I didn’t know where I lied on the vast gender and sexuality spectrum. I didn’t know yet what terms to use or what place my relationships had in the context of my life or journey yet. But it felt good and we were having a good time so I moved towards that. At the end of the day, that’s all that matters. That everyone is having a good time and feels safe and seen. Everything else can come later.
I speak from my experience as a queer person, but like most things, I don’t think it’s specific to just queer relationships. I think lots of people get caught up in what to call a relationship, how it relates to society’s norms or family expectations that they miss sight of what really matters. Do you and your partner(s) feel good? Does this relationship bring joy to your life? Oftentimes people run from fulfilling relationships because it doesn’t seem “normal” or acceptable. This song is about finding joy with someone and not necessarily knowing what it means, but enjoying it and living in the moment.
lyrics
Lyrics:
We’re under the table
Down on our knees
Sweaty palms
I can hear you breathe
I’m terrified of saying something wrong
It’s all new to me, and it’s been so long
There’s nothing that can save us
So stay a little later
I don’t know what this makes us
But we’ll figure it out later
It’s so quiet here
Nothing to say
But in your arms
I feel so safe
There’s so many things I’ve been wondering
But your arms feel good laying on my skin
If I knew what this was, I’d be lying
I’m just out here trying
Doing my best
Impression of someone
Who knows just what they’re doing
I just know I like it when I’m here with you
There’s nothing that can save us
So stay a little later
I don’t know what this makes us
But we’ll figure it out later
[Guitar Solo]
There’s nothing that can save us
So stay a little later
I don’t know what this makes us
But we’ll figure it out later
There’s nothing that can save us
So stay a little later
I don’t know what this makes us
But we’ll figure it out later

What a great album. It took me a while to really get the whole album but I can confidently say it's one of her best. The shorter songs are certainly a different feel, but I still like it. I could pick like five different songs as my favorite and all of them would feel right lol praisedrays
A dazzling tapestry of sound, the latest from Shoeb Ahmad sets whispery vocals deep in electroacoustic soundscapes. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 17, 2021
You know, it wasn't my favorite for a while, but for some reason my brain decided to listen to it on loop a few weeks ago and now I can't stop thinking about it.
I love the synths, the tone, the lyricism, even the music videos which I feel I should mention!!!
(also, should've been me reminds me a bit of abba which is an automatic bonus in my book) praisedrays
